      I Don't Get This

Posted in Discussing "senior citizens" on Mar 22, 2011

Tell me if you get this..I DON"T... I was listening to a talk show today, the discussion was "Hiring help for parents".The guest was saying "I rather have a company that's bonded, than worry about the caregiver". I'm like huh?.. As an agency I know the importance of being bonded.

But I would care about the caregiver as well. I feel that's the problem people are more worried about their personal property than the care of their loved ones. As abuse of seniors rises people should be more careful about whom they allow into their homes. When you don't care about the caregiver Abuse is BOUND to Happen.

      Nures Aide Attack Elderly Woman

Posted in caring heart on Mar 9, 2011

NORTH BERGEN, N.J. (CBSNewYork) – Police are investigating an attack on an elderly nursing home resident in New Jersey in the last hours of her life – and a surveillance camera captured the abuse.

The attack is hard to watch and impossible to understand, reports CBS 2’s Josh Landis.

Modesto Alvarado, 87, lied helplessly in bed as a nurse’s aide, Julia Galvan, allegedly beat her repeatedly. The footage was so violent that it disturbed even the most seasoned police officers.

“You could see the defendant, Julia Galvan, standing over her,” North Bergen Police Lt. Frank Cannella said. “[She] strikes her on the top of the head once…turns her body around, turns back as if she forgot something, strikes her again on the top of the head.”

Alvarado, who had been terminally ill, died a day after the assault on January 15.

“I’ve been here for 29 years, I’ve seen quite a bit – it was difficult for me to watch,” Lt. Cannella said.

Galvan, 59, was arrested and charged with assault, abandonment and neglect of the elderly. She was also fired from the Harborage Nursing Home in North Bergen where it all happened.

The alleged attack might have gone unreported if it hadn’t been for Alvarado’s daughter. She was suspicious about her mother’s mood and appearance, and decided to install a secret “nanny cam,” which is what eventually captured the alleged assault on tape and led to Galvan’s arrest.

According to investigators, Galvan said she was stressed out because of a death in the family and was suffering from depression. Authorities say Alvarado’s death does not appear to be related to the assault, but that Galvan could still face more serious charges from Hudson County prosecutors.

The Harborage issued a statement Friday afternoon, saying the company has a zero tolerance policy for improper treatment of their residents, and that the employee in question has been terminated."

      I couldn't believe this....SO SAD!

in response to Starshine...   Thanks Starshine, It's been a while since we last talked. I hope this message finds you well & blessed. I agree with you . it's sad when no one will help our seniors. Sometimes all they need is a little companionship..I love spending time with them..They are full of so much wisdom! If people would STOP AND LISTEN they would be surprise what they would learn. I always tell my employees "Don't just do your job in a clients home.  LISTEN!"
My Son Death -Cause The Start of My Business

Posted in caring heart on Sep 24, 2010

If Terell hadn't died that cold winter day in December, I wouldn't started my business. Here's my story:

We were watching TV when Terell took his last breath. Terell died from asthma. After Terell died I realized how short life is. There's an old saying "Here today..gone tomorrow". What I've learned is the opposite "Here today..Gone today. From that moment I started thinking about what I wanted out of life? What can I do to help others? I've always been in the medical field , Direct care worker, Medical assistant, Home health assistant, and Certified nurse assistant.. Twenty plus years.

My Son Sudden Death Cause The Start Of My Business- Home care

I started A home care agency in 2008. In memory of Terell . Rels Homecare Corp. I take much pride in my business for Two reasons. 1. I love what I do, It's my passion, I feel it in my Heart, Soul, and Mind. and 2.My business honors my son.

Rels Homecare Corp. Provides non medical services to person in the privacy and comforts of their own home's. Our services Include:

      Bath visits

      Companionship

      Homemaking

      Personal care and Grooming

      In home respite care

      Medication reminders

One of our famous features at Rels Homecare Corp is the Free service we provide on the 15th of every month. This is an non ending offer. I started this offer when I started my business. My love for what I do is so strong .Especially for my senior citizens . The cost of home care can be very expensive and most senior citizens can't afford the care. So I give them a choice of any of our services for free once a month. I wouldn't have it any other way.

However, I never would've presued my dream if my son Terell had not died. Realizing how short life really is.

      A Time To Help

Posted in caring heart on Aug 16, 2010

One day while at the grocery store (Kroger). It was raining really hard, the wind was so high It moved you as you tried to walk. This elderly lady walk out the store and drop her bag. To my surprise No one stop to help her. I couldn't believe my eyes as I watched all these people run to their cars.  No one stop! I ran over to her as fast as I could ! She was so upset, crying as she tried to gather all her food. I asked her to stand inside the door as I went to get dry bags for her food. I  bag her food and waited inside the door with her until the rain subsided. I thought to myself what is the world coming to? This could've been my mother or grandmother. People really need to stop and think.  What if.?
Have you ever thought "What's going to happen to me when I get older? Will I be able to take care of
myself? Will I be able to drive a car or go to the grocery store without assistance? These are question most people never think about. But should.  I often think about the lady at the grocery store wondering how shes doing. I wish I had mention Rels Homecare Corp and the services we offer that could help her.
But this wasn't a time for business. This was A time to help.
For the people who didn't stop to help,  Have you ever thought  this could be you one day?

Hello Everyone, I came on aidepage hoping to get a little funding to help keep my business a float. But, after reading most of the stories I felt out of place. I thought...Oh my God! so many people, so many in need of help just to keep their homes. or have lost their jobs.

Then I thought how can I help? I don't have much. But, I would like to help at least 5 people with funding.

      About caring heart

Posted in caring heart on Aug 21, 2009... modified on Aug 21, 2009

Hello, I started a non-medical homecare agency in 2007. I started it 3 years after the death of my son. who died from asthma. his name was Terell. My company name is Rels Homecare Corp.

In memory of Terell. At first things were going well considering I had just started.I had the clients (I also work in a nursing home). I've been in the healthcare field for 20 years. I wanted to start a business where I could really help people. So I decided to go where my heart is. which is helping my senior citzens and disable people. I love my senior citzens.people always ask me why I say "my senior citizens" It's because I have so much love in myheart, soul, and mind for them. At Rels homecare corp we offer services in personal care, homemaking, in home respite, and companionship. I offer free services on the 15th of every month. I have been advised this is not good business practice. But, I do it anyway.

I make extra money to pay my staff for these free services to clients by working my regular job. I can't get any loans, grants, and I found the SBA is more harder and stricker than most banks. I dont know what to do.

I started this business with the money in my pocket and the determination to make it work. I would work 200 hours a pay peroid (at my regular job) just to make this work. I dont charge my clients a lot of money because most are on fixed incomes. I been told i'm the cheapest homecare agency around.

But now it seem so hard without geting some type of assistance. I try to do everything from fund raiser to everything to raise money to help with the care of my clients, But so far i've been unsuccessful. If anyonehas any ideas please help

      Thank You
